The Art of Alan Kaplan
May 30 - July 5, 2025
Artists’ Reception, Friday, May 30th 6-8PM
As a commercial photographer with a portfolio spanning five decades, Alan Kaplan helped clients like Jack Daniels, American Express, Nokia, Microsoft and Citibank connect with people over moments of familiar emotion that resonate universally and favor character over caricature - a rarity in modern marketing.
“It’s much more effective to capture the interstitial humanity,” says Alan. “Those brief seconds that will create a profound ‘shock of recognition’ with the viewer - that’s what I capture. That’s what we create.”
A cross-media visual communicator, Kaplan helped shape the striking look of Italian Vogue and Gentlemen’s Quarterly. His Daliesque film “A Study in Grey” earned him a silver cup at the Cannes Film Festival. His documentary films about Pride, primate conservation, and beauty in traditional African societies have earned additional critical acclaim.
With work on display in venues as diverse as the collections of Ogilvy and Mather, the Pompidou Center in Paris and Manhattan cabaret hotspot Pangea, Kaplan’s legacy continues to engage people across broad demographics and universal emotions.
