Color vs. Black & White
Atlantic Highlands Arts Council is proud to present “Color vs. Black & White,” a unique window display and interactive exhibition featuring the work of award-winning fine art photographer Thomas J. Camal. The show will run from May 9 through June 20, 2026. A resident of Holmdel, NJ, Camal’s artistic journey began after a lifelong career with the New York City Transit Authority. Having spent decades working underground, Camal is now drawn to the beauty found in "off-the-grid" locales, specifically New Jersey’s weathered beachfronts, deserted buildings, and neglected objects. His work seeks to preserve the history of these overlooked spaces before they are lost to time.
“Color vs. Black & White” offers a compelling look at Camal’s favorite subjects by displaying the same images side-by-side in both color and monochrome. This presentation highlights how different mediums can alter the mood, texture, and storytelling of a single moment. The exhibition includes an interactive component, inviting visitors to vote for their favorite version of each image.
At the conclusion of the show, a random drawing will be held from the pool of participants. The winner will receive an original, signed, matted, and framed print of the image that receives the most votes. Camal currently serves as the Vice President of the Monmouth Camera Club and is an exhibiting member and sits on the Board of Directors for the Guild of Creative Art in Shrewsbury. His work has previously been featured at the Monmouth Museum as an “Emerging Artist” and in the windows at the Art Alliance in Red Bank, where he has also served as a juror for a recent juried show.
