May 12 - June 22, 2024
The 'Colors of Courage' exhibition aims to create a vibrant and inclusive space where artists from LGBTQ+ and BIPOC backgrounds can showcase their creativity, resilience, and unique perspectives. Through a diverse range of artistic expressions, the exhibit fosters dialogue, understanding, and celebration of the intersectional identities within these communities. This exhibit is free and open to the public.
On June 15th at 8 pm we will have a 'Pride Party and Drag Show!' co-hosted by Atlantic Highland's own Betty Buttonz and DJ Aya Vlashes. Tickets for this performance are available at aharts.org.
On June 19th at 7 pm, in celebration of Juneteenth, step into a dynamic panel discussion where art, activism, and inclusivity converge to explore the potent force of creative expression in driving social change. Against the vibrant tapestry of Juneteenth, a celebration rooted in freedom and equality, our panelists will unpack the essence of artivism and the critical need for safe spaces that embrace diversity and intersectionality.
Our diverse panel, composed of LGBTQ+ and BIPOC artists, activists, and advocates, will offer multifaceted perspectives and personal narratives on leveraging artistic voices to challenge systemic injustices and amplify underrepresented communities. This thought-provoking conversation will be moderated by Julio C. Roman, LGBTQ+ Activist and bestselling author of Out of Space: Creating Safe spaces in unlikely places.
By centering diverse voices and experiences, this panel aims to inspire attendees to harness their own creativity as a force for positive social change. Join us in commemorating Juneteenth and fostering a collective commitment to creating inclusive, affirming spaces where every artistic voice is heard and valued. This event is free and open to the public.
